WATERTOWN — Ben Cornish missed his opportunity to play college football for Notre Dame University, one of the most prestigious teams in the country.

But the 33-year-old Detroit native, who stands at 6-foot-8½, has re-ignited his football career this summer with the nation’s oldest semipro football team.

Cornish is in his first season as a defensive end for the Watertown Red and Black (3-0), which will host the Glens Falls Greenjackets (1-2) in its final regular season home game at 7 tonight at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.

Cornish gave a verbal commitment to the Fighting Irish as a high school senior in 1999, but those plans were nixed when Cornish needed reconstructive shoulder surgery.
