It is with great sadness that I inform our football friends of the passing of former EFL Commissioner & Pioneer, Gary Shaver.

Gary A. Shaver, 81, of Catonsville, Maryland, formerly of Hudson and Voorheesville, NY, passed peacefully on August 14, 2014. He was born on December 12, 1932 to Warren C. and Carmita S. Gary was an educator and principal for the New York State Department of Corrections, having worked at the Elmira Correctional Facility, Brookwood Center, Coxsackie Correctional Facility and the Hudson Correctional Facility. He is a past Commissioner for the Empire Football League, a member of the Philmont Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Catonsville, member of the First Reformed Church of Hudson and attended Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Maryland. His passions were the Empire Football League, rotary, church, and most especially, his family to which he devoted his life. He will be remembered for his dedication, determination, kindness, sense of humor and his smile.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Albany.
